Solar Power World is a U.S. trade magazine headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, covering the U.S. solar market. The bimonthly magazine also produces a variety of online content including daily industry news updates, webinars, newsletters, YouTube videos, social media and podcasts. Solar Power World publishes the annual Top Solar Contractors list, a ranking of the top 500 solar installation companies in the United States.
History[edit]
Solar Power World started as a supplement in 2011 to engineering magazine Design World.[1] Initially focusing on the engineering and design side of solar power, Solar Power World eventually found its focus in the installation community. Once becoming a stand-alone magazine[2], Solar Power World developed an audience representing all segments of photovoltaic solar power generation in the United States -- from residential rooftop installers to utility-scale solar farm developers.
Today, Solar Power World is part of the Renewable Energy Network owned and managed by WTWH Media LLC. Sister sites in the WTWH Media network include Windpower Engineering & Development, Design World and The Robot Report, among others.
Reporting by Solar Power World's editorial team has been cited in government documents and official industry reports.[3] [4][5][6]
Top Solar Contractors[edit]
The Top Solar Contractors list[7] is developed each year by Solar Power World to honor the work of solar installers in the United States. Solar firms in the utility, commercial and residential markets are ranked by number of kilowatts installed in the previous year. Companies are grouped and listed by specific service, market and region. The list includes many public companies, including First Solar. [8]
Podcasts[edit]
Contractor's Corner is one podcast series in the Solar Power World network of podcasts. During episodes of Contractor's Corner, editors talk with solar installation companies from across the country.[9]
Awards and honors[edit]
Solar Power World has received awards from the American Society of Business Press Editors (ASBPE) every year of the magazine's existence. In 2012, Solar Power World won the national award for Best New Trade Publication, and in 2021 it was recognized as a Magazine of the Year finalist,[10] a distinction only awarded to six business publications in the United States.
