Sole Source Capital is an American private equity firm headquartered in Dallas, Texas.[1] It typically invests $20-$70 million into industrial or manufacturing businesses with $5-$30 million in annual income.[2][3] Sole Source Capital was founded by investor David Fredston in 2016.[1][4] Its first fund was created two years later with $160 million.[2] By March 2020, Fund I had more than doubled the money invested.[5] Sole Source Capital moved its HQ to Dallas from California in 2020.[6] The firm's second fund raised $555 million in October 2021.[1][3]
Many of the firm's investments are in industrial or manufacturing companies, especially businesses in "warehouse automation, barcoding, and food distribution."[3][6] It often invests in spin-offs or businesses still owned by their founder.[6][5] Sole Source was listed by Inc. Magazine as a "founder-friendly" investment firm.[3] It is a passive investor that does not take control of the company's operations.[5] Four partners, each with their own focus, decide on the firm's investments.[2]
