Professor Solomon Oseremen Momoh was a Nigerian academic and writer. He has over 55 journal articles in local and international journals. He is a co-author of Developmental Psychology: An Educational Perspective, An Introduction to Tests, Measurements and Evaluation in Education and Psychology, Research methods in Education and Social Sciences, Women and the HIV/AIDS Epidemic: The Issue of School Age Girls’ Awareness in Nigeria. He was awarded the Development in Nigeria Merit Award in 2007. Until his death on 2 April 2013, he was married with a wife and five children.

Biography[edit]

He was born at Irrua, Esan-Central LGA of the then Mid-Western Region now Edo State on 15 May 1960 to the family of Illenre Momoh of Dova, Ekpoma, Esan West LGA of Edo State. He began his education at the Anglican Grammar School, Ujuolen, Ekpoma, Edo State from 1971 to 1972. Between 1973 and 1975, he was at the Annunciation Catholic College, Irrua, Edo State, where he obtained the West African School Certificate. Immediately after his secondary education, he proceeded to Lagos where he worked at the National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos between 1976 and 1980. Upon establishment of College of Education, Igueben, Edo State in 1980, he decided to come back to Esan land to study at the College of Education, Igueben where he obtained a National Certificate of Education in 1983, after his NCE, he was posted to Ogun State for his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 1984. Fate led him to Ondo State after his NYSC where he worked at Comprehensive High School, Ode-Irele from 1984 to 1986. After a short stay at Ondo State, He proceeded to the University of Calabar, Cross River State where he bagged a Bachelor of Education degree in Guidance and Counselling from 1986 to 1988, while in 1991 he obtained a Masters of Education degree in Guidance and Counselling from the same university.

The first place of employment was at the Ambrose Alli University in 1993 as an Assistant Lecturer. He was promoted to the position of Lecturer II in October 1995, and to the position of Lecturer I in October 1998. In 1999 he gained a Doctorate degree in Guidance and Counselling from the Ambrose Alli University. In October 2001, he was promoted to the position of Senior Lecturer; the position of Reader in October 2004 and to Professorial position in October 2007. He was Acting Director, Institute of Education, Ambrose Alli University from June 2001 to September 2002; three-time Acting Head of Department of Psychology, Ambrose Alli University from December 2002 to 2005 and Director, Institute of Education from September 2005 to August 2007. Director Academic Planning Division, Ambrose Alli University, November 2009 to August 2012, member, Governing Council of the Ambrose Alli University representing Council.

He was also at different times, supervisor to postgraduate students. Other appointments he held were Senate Representative, University Admission Board; Member, Committee on HIV/AIDS Policy and Control from 2003 to 2004; Member Panel for Interview of Academic Staff and Temporary Appointments (2003); Editor, Nigeria Journal of Educational Research; Member, Panel to investigate the source of those faking NABTEB results and other issues relating to NABTEB results in the University (2004), Member, Board of Schools, University Staff Schools representing Senate 2004, external examiner, (post-graduate programmes) University of Calabar, Calabar (where he examined numerous Ph.D dissertations and M.Ed thesis in Guidance and Counselling in December 2009, external examiner, (under-graduate) Niger-Delta University, Wilberforce Island, External Examiner, External Assessor for Readership, University of Ado-Ekiti April 2010, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State 2011, Peer reviewer, Journal of Social Science India, Peer Reviewer, International Journal of Sociology and Anthropology, Member, Ambrose Alli University, ICT Steering Committee, January 2010, Member, Ambrose Alli University Strategic Planning Committee, Member, Ambrose Alli Fund Raising Committee, Member University Governing Council, representing senate.[1]

He is a co-author, of Developmental Psychology: An Educational Perspective, An Introduction to Tests, Measurements and Evaluation in Education and Psychology, Research methods in Education and Social Sciences, Teachers' quality, instructional strategies and students' performance in secondary school science,[2] Male Gender Roles and Sexuality: Implications for University Girls’ HIV/AIDS Awareness in a Nigerian University,[3] and Women and the HIV/AIDS Epidemic: The Issue of School Age Girls’ Awareness in Nigeria.[4] He had two chapters in Fundamentals of Human Learning, Edited by E.T. Ehiamentalor, and R.O. Osagie, "Motivation and Human Learning," and "Transfer of Leaning." A recipient of the Development in Nigeria Merit Award 2007, recipient of the Institute of Industrial Administration Academic Noble International Award in 2011, an award by the Annunciation Catholic College, Irrua, 2009, in recognition of an outstanding achievement as professor of Counselling Psychology.
