Sonnox Ltd is a developer of digital audio signal processing technologies..[1] The company specialises in creating VST, AU and Avid AAX audio plugins[2] for applications such as mixing for music production, live sound, broadcast, TV and films.[3]
History[edit]
Sonnox became a registered company in 2006[4], but its roots can be traced back to a team of audio engineers that first met in the 1980's. These engineers worked together designing mixing consoles at Solid State Logic, before leaving to start a new company, Oxford Digital, in 1988.
The design team at Oxford Digital was responsible for developing the original Oxford OXF-R3 digital mixing console[5], more commonly known as the Oxford Console[6]. The console was released commercially by Sony in the mid 1990's[6], and had a base price of $1 million.[7] It was installed in major recording studios worldwide, including Real World Studios[8] and The Hit Factory[9]
The Oxford OXF-R3 inspired the development of a series of plugins for Digital Audio Workstations, including the Oxford EQ and Oxford Dynamics.[10] This transition to audio plugin development prompted the departure from the Sony brand and the formation of Sonnox Ltd.[6]
Today, Sonnox continues to develop audio plugins, including the highly-regarded Oxford Inflator.[7]
Location[edit]
Sonnox is located in Finstock, Oxfordshire, 50 miles outside of London.[11]
