Sophie Chang, Chang Shu-Feng (Chinese: 張淑芬) a philanthropist and artist residing in Taiwan, serves as Chairperson of TSMC Charity Foundation.[1], Chairperson of Weiyi Social Welfare Charity Foundation, Director of Dunan Foundation, and Director of Modern Women’s Foundation. She is the wife of Dr. Morris Chang.[2] , Founder and Chairman of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). She has two daughters.
Philanthropy[edit]
Sophie Chang shares her experiences and perspectives with the public on topics including relationship management, lifelong learning and volunteerism.
In 2011, she held an exhibition/charity bazaar of her painting[3] ; also in the same year, she held a campaign to support those impacted by the severe typhoon by collecting books for the children and selling crops for the aboriginal tribes. In addition, she also visited the impacted area and supported the reconstruction of the area[4].
In 2014, a severe gas explosion occurred in Kaohsiung occurred; soon after that, Sophie Chang led the volunteers from TSMC to help recovering the area in the front line, apart from simply provide monetary donation for disaster relief[5].
In 2015, Sophie Chang called for TSMC’s support to provide pressure clothing for those injured in blast in Formosa Fun Coast. She also held relevant campaigns to support the injured to regain peace of mind[6].
In 2018 February 6th, a magnitude-6.0 earthquake occurred in Hualien, caused more than 200 people injured and 17 deaths[7], Sophie Chang on behalf of TSMC Charity Foundation initiated a fundraising, raised NT$57.41 million (US$1.97 million) for rebuilding Hualien City from TSMC employees, TSMC and SEMI Taiwan members[8]. She also co-worked with Taiwan Railways Administration and booked a train which took more than 700 TSMC employees and their families to Hualien, which helped encourage revitalizing tourism and local economic[9].
In May 2018, Sophie Chang partnered with Christie’s and held "The Art of Giving Charity Auction" in Hong Kong. The art piece "Soaring Beyond" was sold for HK$1,300,000 (US$166,475), all proceeds of the sale were donated to Save the Children[10][11]
At present, Sophie Chang is dedicated to establishing a “network of love & care” for the elderly with volunteer programs and medical platform. As of 2017, the collaboration model between professional medical organizations and nonprofit organizations in the six major areas of the country has been established[12]. Moreover, she is working with the Tainan City Government and the Ministry of Education of Taiwan to implement filial piety into the teaching material for primary and secondary school teaching materials to actively promote this important value of the Chinese culture[13]

Sophie Chang was selected as Taiwan Tatler Magazine’s top 100 Influential People in 2017[14]. She is also the author of "True Spirit - My Growth ", "Constant Moving Forward on the Easel” and other books.
