Sougata Pramanick (born Sept 1973) (সৌগত প্রামাণিক) is an Indian Pharmaceutical scientist from Calcutta. He holds a degree in pharmaceutical sciences from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra and went to Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi for his graduate study; and completed an Executive Management programme at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore in 2005.
Early life and education
He is the great grandson of Sudhamoy Pramanick from Shantipur and the grandson of Diptendu Pramanick. He was born in 1973 and is the eldest son of Subrata Pramanick.[1] who was Training manager at Metal Box (I) ltd. [2],[3]. In his extended family were also scientists like Dr Shashank Shekhar De (FAO)[4] who inspired him.
Career
1998 - present
He gained an experience in research working at R&Ds of renowned Indian Pharma companies [5] including, Cheminor Drugs Ltd and Parke-Davis in Hyderabad; briefly Pfizer (when it tookover Parke-Davis) [6],Zydus Cadila's Team-2000 [7], followed by Torrent Research Centre in Ahmedabad, where his first Para IV project went through [8] and he also published his first patent [9]. His work on a discovery project (TRC-41xx)[10] was recognized [11]. In 2004, Sougata joined Strides Arcolab at Bangalore and it was here that he published his first United States Patent [12]. During his tenure at Emcure from 2008, he has presented at national fora alongside international speakers. He spoke at the NDDS 2011 on Parenteral dispersed systems[13][14] and on 'Lyophilization cycle development' at the QbD 2013 organized by the CPhI [15] and at the CDRI [16]. His presence at the Extractables and Leachables seminar [17][18] and the Genotoxicity workshop was covered in media.[19]. He also attended the 'International Year of Chemistry' meet at the National Chemical Laboratory in 2011 [20] speaking on the future of drugs. In 2013 his novel work in manufacturing an injectable emulsion without using the standard rotary autoclave got published as a patent [21]. An article authored by Pramanick has become a popular reference about 'Excipients used in Injectable formulations', amassing more than 150000 hits within a year of going online, cited 165 times in International journals [22] and ranks within the top 0.1% of articles at Academia.edu [23]. In 2016 he spoke at the Lyotalk conference in Mumbai which was claimed to be Asia-Pacific's largest conference on Freeze-drying/ Lyophilization [24] and he was invited to speak at the Dublin chapter of this conference in 2017 [25] and many more times till recently in 2026 in Ahmedabad, India [26]. As on 2026, Sougata is consulting on FDA compliance and Lyophilization at Qualtec Consulting and Meridan Consulting [27]
