SouthEast Bank is a regional financial institution headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee, in the community of Farragut. It operates a network of 14 branches across Middle Tennessee and East Tennessee.

Overview

Established on April 29, 2002,[1] the bank offers a range of financial products and services, including personal and business checking and savings accounts, mortgages, personal and commercial loans, credit and debit cards, and electronic banking services.[2]

History

SouthEast Bank, originally founded as SouthEast Bank & Trust, was established in 2002, initially opening branches in Athens and Decatur, Tennessee, followed by loan production offices in Dayton and Spring City later that year.[3]

Business Model

SouthEast Bank was founded with a unique ownership structure designed to promote community involvement, ensuring that no single shareholder controls more than 5% of the bank’s shares.[3]

The bank operates with a dual focus on traditional community banking and specialized student loan services. In addition to offering standard deposit services and various loan products – including mortgages, commercial loans, and personal loans – SouthEast Bank manages a significant student loan refinancing program through ELFI (Education Loan Finance), a division of SouthEast Bank.

In 2022, the company surpassed $2 billion in funded student loan refinancing and consolidation loans, assisting more than 25,000 graduates, parents, and cosigners.[4]

Community Reinvestment and Engagement

One of the largest initiatives SouthEast Bank has established is SEB Scholars, which disseminates scholarship funds to local community colleges, four-year colleges, and universities in Middle and East Tennessee to support low-to-moderate income students with the cost of attending.

Over the past decade, the bank has contributed more than $25 million to initiatives that support primary through post-secondary education, financial literacy, and workforce development.[5][6][7][8][9]

Branches and Assessment Areas

SouthEast Bank operates 14 branches across several Tennessee counties, including Bradley, Hamilton, Knox, Loudon, McMinn, Meigs, Putnam, and Rhea. These counties form the bank’s Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) assessment areas, encompassing both metropolitan and non-metropolitan regions.
