South African Amapiano Music Awards

The South African Amapiano Music Awards (SAAPA) is an Awards Ceremony dedicated to Amapiano music and culture. Launched in 2021[1], the ceremony is held annually and features appearances and performances from some of the biggest names in entertainment and music contributing notably to the Amapiano genre and culture.

Categories[edit]

SAAPA currently has 28 categories[2] including Amapiano Song of the Year, Amapiano Artist of the Year, Best Amapiano Lyricist, Best Amapiano Vocalist, Friends of Amapiano and Best Amapiano Street Dancer.

Winners[edit]

The late Amapiano artist Mpura was the biggest awardee of the 2021 debut edition of the SAAPA Awards after winning three trophies for Amapiano Song Of The Year, Best Amapiano Produced Song for Umsebenzi Wethu alongside Busta 929 as well as Best Amapiano /

Although originating in South Africa, the Amapiano sound has gone global, receiving acknowledgement and notable nods from the likes of American rapper and mogul Diddy and British musician Jorja Smith. In 2023 the nominees included West African artists such as Davido, Wizkid, Asake and Goya Menor.
