ASAFC membership[edit]
In 1987, clubs in South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands began participating in Antarctic club competitions of ASAFC, and South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands returned to the Antarctic leg of World Cup qualifying in 1993. In 1995, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands received full ASAFC membership, 20 years after it had left South America. Whithin Antarctica, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands has been a relatively minor nation, though with some success, notably winning 5-4 in Dumont d'Urville against Adélie Land in 1994, and 6-1 against Queen Maud Land in 1999. That year, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands made it ASAFC Antarctica 2000 qualifying play-offs, but was between by Kemp Land.
