Today, Southeast Asia Globe has reporters based in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia and Singapore.
The publication is managed by Globe Media Asia, along with annual print business magazine Focus Cambodia, annual Cambodian travel magazine Discover, and Khmer-language website Focus - Ready for Tomorrow. The Globe reports across four pillars: Power, Life, Money, and Earth.
Content[edit]
In January 2018, local press reported that Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen rejected commentary from foreign observers, published in Southeast Asia Globe, regarding the poor state of his health and possible succession.[1][2]. In September 2019, Preap Kol, country director of Transparency International, was called for a meeting with Cambodian government spokesman Phay Siphan for comments he gave to the Southeast Asia Globe regarding inequality in Cambodia.[3][4]
In September 2020 it was selected as one of Google News Initiative's Asia-Pacific cohort[5] alongside regional names like the Jakarta Post, Malaysiakini and Business Insider Japan. In August 2020, the Globe produced a six-part series, funded by Facebook and backed by Splice Media, on the state of the Cambodian economy during COVID-19[6]
In March and April 2021, the Globe, alongside broadcaster CNN, was part of the first foreign press tour into Myanmar since the February 1 military coup[7][8]. To report on the tour, the Globe partnered with Al Jazeera[9], the Washington Post [10]and the Pulitzer Center[11]
