Southern Pacific 4426 is an EMD SD9 diesel locomotive that was originally built in 1956 by General Motors Electro-Motive Division for the Southern Pacific Railroad.[1]

4426 had began its life as Southern Pacific SD9 #5468 upon being delivered in 1956, but would be renumbered to #3942 in 1965. In 1977, the Southern Pacific Railroad rebuilt the #3942 into what had became #4426 at their own Sacramento Shops after they introduced their General Rehabitation and Improvement Program (G.R.I.P) process.[2]

After running for a total of thirty years of service on the Southern Pacific Railroad, 4426 was retired from service on the Southern Pacific on September 18th, 1995, and was delivered to progress rail on February 10th, 1996.[3]

4426 would eventually be donated to the Nevada Northern Railway Museum where it was renumbered by the museum as #204. It is operational at the museum to this day where it is occasionally pulling passenger trains run by the museum.
