The Southwest Section PGA (Southwest PGA) is a professional golf organization founded in 1958[2] that is headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Southwest PGA administers golf tournaments for its members, associate members, junior golfers and conducts PGA Tour qualifying events, as well as, providing support for the membership including the organization of growth of the game initiatives, seminars and education workshops. Based on the number of members and associate members, the Southwest PGA is the 5th largest of the 41 Professional Golfers' Association of America Sections.[3]

With 5 qualifying tournaments and a final championship field of 156 players, the largest annual event the Southwest PGA Section conducts is the Arizona Open Championship.[4][5]

Chapters[edit | edit source]

The Southwest PGA has two chapters of the Section - the Southern Chapter of the Southwest PGA and the Southern Nevada Chapter of the Southwest PGA.[6][7]

The Southern Chapter of the Southwest PGA was chartered by the Section to provide greater member service to those association members and associates whose facilities are located in the southern most regions of the Section including Tucson, Arizona.[8]

The Southern Nevada Chapter of the Southwest PGA was chartered by the Section to provide greater member service to those association members and associates whose facilities are located in Clark County, Nevada including Las Vegas, Nevada.[9]

Tournaments[edit | edit source]

Including member-only events, junior golf events and PGA Tour Open qualifiers, the Southwest PGA conducts over 50 tournaments each year including three major championships:[10][11][12]

PGA Tour Qualifying[edit | edit source]

The Southwest PGA conducts pre-qualifying and Monday qualifying for three (3) PGA Tour events:

The Waste Management Phoenix Open pre-qualifying and Monday qualifying typically has over 600 registrants competing over 7 different pre-qualifying sites and 1 Monday qualifying site for 4 spots into the Waste Management Phoenix Open proper.[13]
