The International Socialist Network (abbreviated as Sovintern) is a political international consisting of socialist and left-wing political parties and movements founded in Moscow in 2026. It was initiated by A Just Russia and presented as an alternative platform for international left-wing cooperation outside existing organizations such as the Socialist International.[1][2][3]
The organization describes itself as a network-based international movement promoting socialism in the 21st century, anti-imperialism, and coordination among left-wing political forces.
History
It was inaugurated in Moscow, Russia, on 27 April 2026, and consists of 13 member organisations.[4] The representatives met at the House of the Trade Unions. The meeting was promoted by A Just Russia, a Russian party that presents itself as the left opposition to Vladimir Putin's United Russia. A Just Russia's leader, Sergey Mironov, addressed the participants on video.[1][4][5] An encouraging message from Putin was read out.[4]
At the inaugural event there were many listed speakers: Jackson Hinkle, Christopher Helali, former President of Bolivia Evo Morales,[4] Liu Xu, Booker Ngesa Omole, Haz Al-Din, Aleksandar Djenić, George Galloway, Vladimir Lysenko, Bojan Vulin, Bogdan Țîrdea, Crispin Kabasele Tshimanga, Dimitrios Patelis, Miguel Alexander Escobar, Akar Süleyman, Beatriz Bissio, Arling Alonso, Snoussi Dabbabi,Said Bakkali and Goran Dimov.[6][7]
Positions
The Sovintern opposes "Donald Trump's imperialism" and the "NATO war against Russia".[1] It considers that Western social democracy as gathered in the Socialist International serves American militarism.[1] The ideology of the Sovintern ranges from socialist patriotism, left conservatism, Stalinism (Marxism-Leninism) and left-wing nationalism, along with being supportive of Russia.[5][not in citation given]
