Kim So-jung (born December 7, 1995)[1], better known by her stage name Sowon, is a South Korean singer and dancer. She is known as a leader of South Korean girl group GFriend.

Early life[edit]

Sowon was born December 7, 1995, in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, South Korea. She is the youngest daughter in her family and having one older sister. Her father passed away in June 22, 2018 due to chronic illness.

In 2014, Sowon graduated from Hanlim Multi Arts High School (Fashion Model Department) and was the only member of GFRIEND graduated from this high school. In 2016, she got accepted as student of Sungshin Women’s University (Department of Media Visual Performance).[2]

Career[edit]

Pre-debut: Before debut with GFriend[edit]

Prior to debut, Sowon trained with DSP Media for 4 years along with KARD members since 2010. She was chosen to be appeared in Rainbow Music Videos [3][4] and A-Jax reality program[5].

After leaving DSP Media, Sowon joined Source Music as trainee in 2013. In 2014, Sowon was appointed as leader of Source Music's new girl group (later known as GFriend) and became the 1st confirmed member of the group. She was trained 2 years before making debut with GFriend.[6]

2015–present: Debut with GFriend[edit]

In January 2015, Sowon debuted as a leader and sub-vocal of South Korean girl group GFriend with their debut album Season of Glass.[7]

In October 2018, she debuted as runway model for D-ANTIDOTE at S/S Hera Seoul Fashion Week 2019.[8]
