Spark Air Pvt. (Ltd.) or Spark Air is an airline based in Sri Lanka with its hub at the Mattala Rajapakse International Airport, Hambantota.

History[edit]

The formation of the airline was officially announced on the 27th of September, 2020. It is planned to start operations on the month of February 2021.[1][2][3][4]

The airline is planned to initially carry cargo and later commercial passengers as well. Two Airbus A330s configured for cargo transport are planned to be acquired by the company on a dry lease basis for the initial phase of operations along with two hangars and cargo storage facilities in the Mattala Airport.[5]

The public notice issued by the Civil Aviation Authority lists the board of directors as follows:[6]

Spark Air also plans to add 15 initial destinations.[5]
