Spectron Glass and Electronics Inc.
Spectron Glass and Electronics Inc. is an electronics company headquartered in Hauppauge on Long Island, in New York state.
The company is a leading designer and manufacturer of electrolytic tilt sensors and electronic inclinometer products. The sensors manufactured by Spectron Glass and Electronics provide gravity referenced level sensing, and have numerous applications in military, aerospace, construction, geotechnical, and industrial equipment.
History[edit]
Founded in 1947 under the name Spectron Glass Laboratories as a neon sign manufacturer. They began producing electrolytic tilt sensors in 1948. Shortly thereafter the neon sign business was discontinued, and in 1949 the company was renamed Spectron Glass and Electronics Inc..
Since that time, the company has focused on the design and manufacture of electrolytic tilt sensors and electronic inclinometers.
In 1986 the company was taken over by a German corporation. Engineering & Quality control experts were hired to clean up the contract deficiencies, but a lack of understanding of Mil-Q9858 & DD-250 threatened to cancel many contracts. Somehow the company managed to pull itself together & continues to do business.
