History[edit]
The event started in 2002 and was invented and organized by Mediarace Oy, Finnish advertising agency. SpeedParty quickly grew into a multinational event, gathering participants from Sweden, Estonia, etc. From the beginning, it was surprisingly popular amongst both drivers and spectators. Usually there is room for 50-60 drivers and it has taken only 2–3 days to get this number of drivers with their spectacular cars.
Year 2006 the event took some back steps when new rules on airport security were introduced. Only the drivers were allowed into the airport area. This was due to terrorism and overall change in airport security policies in the world.
In the winter of 2007 a new event was introduced, named "Winter Challenge". This was held on Joensuu Hippodrome. For the public, there was an opportunity to take part in ice speedway with cars. There were also lots of different shows from stunt car acts to a Rally car driving show.
SpeedConcept and SpeedParty[edit]
Originally, the SpeedConcept car club was formed by the same people behind the SpeedParty. During the first years members of the club took part in arranging the event. In 2006, SpeedConcept was granted the rights to organize its own events under "SpeedParty" trademark.
