Spiffy Pictures is an American production company specializing in family entertainment, puppetry, and animation. They have created television shows like Nature Cat and Jack's Big Music Show. The company is located in Deerfield, Illinois outside of Chicago[1].
History[edit]
David Rudman has been working for the Muppets since the early 1980s and is a core Sesame Street puppeteer, performing Baby Bear and assuming the role of Cookie Monster in 2001 after the semi-retirement of Frank Oz.
In the early '90s, Rudman's friend, who had just started working at Nickelodeon asked him to pitch some ideas for interstitials. David and his brother, Adam, went on to create a short-form puppetry series called Hocle and Stoty that would be aired on Nick Jr. They also created a shadow-puppet interstitial for MTV called Jean-Claude LeThargic, and one for Comedy Central called Life's a Drag, featuring cigarette pack puppets. The Rudmans created shorts for Sesame Street, and Adam also got to write for the series.[2]
As the Rudman brothers moved from short-form to long-form, they changed their name from "Rudling Productions"[2] to Spiffy Pictures, which was founded by David and Adam Rudman in 2003[3]. In 2004, they made a direct-to-video series for Nick Jr. called Curious Buddies. In 2005, the company created Jack's Big Music Show, airing on Noggin. This series became very popular, and was on for two seasons until 2008. From 2007 to 2008, the company made Bunnytown for Playhouse Disney.
In 2013, Spiffy Pictures created a direct-to-DVD Scooby-Doo puppet film called Scooby-Doo! Adventures: The Mystery Map. It featured the voices of Frank Welker (original voice of Fred) and Matthew Lillard (played Shaggy Rogers in the live-action films), as well as the core Muppet performers Eric Jacobson, Matt Vogel , and David Rudman.
Spiffy Pictures currently produces the animated PBS Kids series Nature Cat, which aired in 2015.[4]
