Introduction[edit]
Spilt Milk is a music and arts festival held annually in the national capital, Canberra, and is Australia’s fastest-selling one-day festival. Taking place at the beginning of summer each year, the event has been running since 2016 and was founded by Kicks Entertainment.
The festival hosts international and Australian contemporary music performers as well as art installations and an eclectic food village. The art instllations are created at the festival by local and national artists, while the main festival artwork is designed by a different artist each year. The artwork is then brought to life through the website, marketing and throughout the event site.
Spilt Milk brings together street food vendors and restaurants from around Australia, with a focus on artisan, organic, ethical and delicious foods. Each year the event showcases around twenty independent vendors ranging from burgers to Filipino cuisine to smoked meat. Previous food vendors have included Mary’s, Gelato Messina, Down N’ Out and Hoy Pinoy.
As Australia’s premier single-day destination music and arts festival, a majority of attendees travelling from interstate for Spilt Milk. In 2017 75% of attendees travelled from outside of the ACT to attend the festival.
In a report completed by Social Economics Sydney, it is estimated that Spilt Milk has generated more than $25 million in total economic benefit to the Australian Capital Territory’s (ACT) economy in its first two years of operation (2016 and 2017).[1]. Spilt Milk interstate ticket holders represented over 8% of all 18-24 year old inbound overnight tourists to the Canberra region in 2016[1]
