Spitzmauer is a distinctive, 2,446 m (8,025 ft) high mountain peak in the Austrian Totes Gebirge.[1] It is shaped like a pyramid and looks majestic when viewed from the south of the Stodertal valley from the village of Hinterstoder. The top can be reached by a secured path, the Stodertaler Klettersteig. Both hiking and most climbing routes lead from Hinterstoder through the Prielschutzhaus hut and overcome a considerable altitude difference of 1,850 m (6,070 ft).
History
The first tourist ascent to the top was made by C. Stelzer, H. Langeder and mountain guide Matthias Hotz.[2] The first climbing ascent to the top through the massive eastern wall was undertaken in 1906 by R. Damberger and H. Kirchmayr.[1]
Access
From the Stodertal valley from the village of Hinterstoder (591 m (1,939 ft) above sea level).[3]
