Splius is one of the largest Lithuanian telecommunications companies. The company has the following services: fiber optic Internet, landline phone, television, Smart TV services, cable TV, digital television and high definition television.[1][2]

The company is headquartered in Šiauliai, Lithuania. The CEO of the Splius is Arymantas Klapatauskas.[3]

History

In 1994, a company called Šiaulių kabelinė televizija was founded. In 1999, the company was renamed Splius.[4] The company started its operations by supplying cable television in Šiauliai, Kuršėnai and Radviliškis.[5]

Splius started providing Internet services in 2000.[6] Since 2004, the company has been publishing the weekly Šiauliai plius. The distribution service Siauliai Plus was founded in 2008. In 2009, the company launched a news portal for the Šiauliai region, Etaplius.lt.

In 2019, Cgates has begun the process of acquiring Splius. The agreement must be finalized after approval by the Competition Council of the Republic of Lithuania (Konkurencijos taryba).[7][8]

On 11 December 2020, Competition Council received a merger notification from Cgates. In 2021, Konkurencijos taryba refused to confirm the acquisition of Cgates 100% shares of Splius, as the structure concluded that the merger would significantly restrict competition in the retail market for pay-TV services in Šiauliai.[9][10][11] In 2021, the company became one of the sponsors of the autoracing team from Gargždai "Garažo raktai". In addition, the company supports a number of Lithuanian festivals including "Days of Šiauliai",[12] as well as basketball and rugby teams.[13][14]

In February 2022, Splius expressed support for Ukraine and refused to broadcast several Russian channels.[15]

As of 2022, Splius operates in Northern and Western Lithuania, namely in cities of the Šiauliai county (Radviliškis, Kuršenai, Joniškis, Kelme, Pasvalys, Naujoi Akmene, Pakruojis) and Klaipeda county (Kretinga, Gargždai, Šilutė),[15] Panevėžys.[16][17]
