Spoon is a Malaysian pop rock band formed in Kuala Lumpur in 1995. Composed of Along (vocalist), Shanaz (drummer), Yahaya (bass), Boy (lead guitar) and Nurul (second guitar), the band achieved success between the mid-1990s and early 2000s. Among the band's most famous singles are "Rindu Serindu Rindunya", "Puncak Rindu Kasih Sayang", "Memori Sekuntum Rindu", "Sekali Lagi", "Mengecap Bahagia" and "Bicara Cinta". Spoon disbanded following Along's sudden death in December 1999.
History
Formed in 1995 while in high school, Spoon achieved commercial success 3 years later, in 1998 with their first studio album which took the group's name as the album title, and subsequently achieved widespread success with their first single, "Rindu Serindu Rindunya" composed by Eddie Hamid with lyrics written by Man Toba.
Their debut album was well received in the market with sales reaching 100,000 units. This made Spoon the best-selling new group, surpassing the sales of other popular artists' albums and becoming the first new group to top the RIM Chart, surpassing Ziana Zain's album sales . However, in December 1998, two members of Spoon left the group to continue their studies.
Spoon's second album followed in July 1999 with the title Kembali Merindu . The song "Memori Sekuntum Rindu" was released as the first single. However, on 8 November 1999, Spoon was no longer an artist of Childplay Music Productions and thus an artist of the recording company Life Records.
Spoon's last album, Kini, was released in mid-2000. After Along's death, he was replaced by Along's younger brother Azlong. After that, Azlong withdrew due to unavoidable issues. Therefore, Spoon was disbanded in 2000.
