Sportsman is a company that produces pleasure fishing outboard boats. The company's main manufacturing facility is located in Dorchester County, South Carolina.[2]

History[edit]

Originally founded by two legendary boat builders, Tommy Hancock and Dale Martin, Sportsman Boats was the vision to fulfill a need in the boating market place.[3] Starting with a 20,000-square-foot space in 2011, the manufacturing facility has undergone several expansions.[4] The current facility was expanded from 74,000 square feet to 190,000 square feet in 2014.[5] The latest expansion plans to add an additional 75,000 square feet and cost $3.5 million.[6]

Overview[edit]

Sportsman Boats manufacturers and markets boats ranging from 20-foot to 31-foot Center console (boat) in 4 different series. They produce 2 lines of offshore center console boats and 2 lines of inshore bay boats.[7] The offshore boats are marketed as the Open Series, with a size range of 21-foot to 31-foot and the Heritage Series, with a size range of 21-foot to 25-foot. The inshore boats are marketed as the Masters Series, which range from 20-foot to 26-foot and the Tournament Series, which ranges from 21-foot to 23-foot.

Solar Panel Project[edit]

In 2017, Sportsman showed off its $1.2 million solar energy project consisting of 2,394 3-by-5 panels on the rooftop of their manufacturing facility.[6] The solar farm has an estimated output of 800-kilowatt[8] and the company stated that the panels would produce enough energy to run the entire plant.[6]
