Luke Heckendorf (born 23 October 1992) is a professional NRL Touch Premiership referee. He has represented at National, State, or Origin event & International fixtures.
Early life
Heckendorf was born in Sydney and grew up on the Northern Beaches. Luke attended Northern Beaches Christian School located in Terry Hills and was the school's sports captain in his final year.
Rugby League Refereeing Career
Luke refereed both Touch Football during his early years before taking up Rugby League refereeing and becoming a graded member of the NSWRL, gaining the graded number of 1010. He is currently a member of the NSWRL Referees Association and juggles his Rugby League commitments with NRL Touch Football appointments. Luke took control of his first international Test, Solomon Islands v Vanuatu, in 2017 held in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
Touch Refereeing Career
Luke was selected to officiate at the 2015 Youth Trans-Tasman Series held at Endeavour Field. He held his position in the Women's 20's division, leading the team of officials in all three matches. Luke also appeared at the 2015 Touch World Cup held in Coffs Harbour. He refereed the Senior Mixed Grand Final.
Luke's most recent international appearance was at the 2017 Youth Trans Tasman Series held in Manukau, Auckland. Luke officiated the Boys 18's division.
Luke was one of the few Australian referees to be selected to referee at the 2019 Touch World Cup in Malaysia, though he turned down the opportunity to focus on Rugby League.
