Spot in the Woods is a boutique New Forest Bed & Breakfast and Kitchen Cafe near Southampton in Hampshire, established by Nina and Gerard Basset OBE. The hotel has 11 bedrooms, a large kitchen Café, terrace and gardens.
History[edit]
Nina and Gérard opened six Hotels in total before selling to MWB Group in October 2004, and opened Hotel TerraVina in 2007, prior to Spot in the Woods in 2018.[1]
Proprietors[edit]
Gérard is a wine specialist. He is a Master Sommelier,[2] Master of Wine[3] and holds a Wine MBA.[4] Gérard is a Chevalier Sabrage, an expert in Sabrage, the art of opening a bottle of Champagne using a sabre.
Nina qualified from Westminster Hotel School, and started her career in Paris and then on returning to England, worked at Chewton Glen Hotel where she met Basset. She was an AA Hotel Inspector at the age of 21,[5] and left to help set up the Hotel du Vin in Winchester. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality.
