Square Dance Messiah is the name of Hypnotic Clambake's first full-length studio album.[1] It was released in 1990 on Blue Button Records.[2] The album showcases the musical talents of the band's lineup at the time. It also employs catchy, pop-format songs to explore a range of humorous topics. Typical of Hypnotic Clambake, the record wanders through a wide variety of musical genres which include folk rock, Gypsy punk, alternative rock & worldbeat. Bandleader Maury Rosenberg collaborated heavily with several Boston based musicians on this album which included: Darrell Scott, Glenn Dickson, Mark Eaton, Kathy Burkly, Ralph Rosen, Grant Smith, Josef Kesler and others. This album was engineered by Andrew Murdock who also produced Godsmack's Godsmack and Awake albums. It has been described as being "like a bar mitzvah on acid."[3]"These world-beat vigilantes don't quite fit into any category, but make just as valid a contribution to the opening of the American musical mind." [4]
