Sri. S. R. Sukumara

S.R. Sukumara (January 1, 1945 – January 26, 2013) was an IPS officer who served as Director General of Police (DGP) in the state of Andhra Pradesh in South India from July 31, 2003 – January 01, 2005.

S.R. Sukumara was appointed to the IPS in 1967.[1] and trained at Mount Abu. His first posting was in Kakinaada, Andhra Pradesh as an A. S. P. under training. He served in various capacities in the A.P. cadre, including Superintendent of police of Mahabubnagar, Adilabad, Karimnagar, West Godavari and Anantapur districts, DIG of Karimnagar and Guntur ranges; IG Railways, Hyderabad city police commissioner, and Director-General of Prisons[1]

On Jul 31, 2003, the chief minister Chandrababu Naidu appointed Sukumara, as the Director-General of Police for the state of Andhra Pradesh[1].[2]He served in this position till his retirement on January 01, 2005[3].

Sukumara was born in Bellary on Jan 1st 1945 to S. K. Ramachandran and Saradambal Ramachandran. He studied in Wardlaw high school in Bellary and went on to complete a B. A. and M. A. in Economics from Vivekananda college, Chennai in 1966.  He was the third of six siblings. He married his wife Bhanumathi in 1971 and they had 2 daughters, Bhavana and Chetana.

Sukumara passed away on 26th January 2013 of a heart failure and is survived by his wife and two daughters[4]
