Sri Lanka Institute of Architects
The Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) is a professional body for architects primarily in Sri Lanka, founded for the advancement of architecture.
Founded as the Ceylon Institute of Architects (CIA) , the SLIA retains a Colombo based headquarters at 120/7, Vidya Mawatha, Colombo 07.[1] Its members played a leading part in the promotion of architectural education in Sri Lanka.
The institute administers various architectural awards within Sri Lanka. It also manages SLIA competitions which organises architectural and other design-related competitions.
Structure
The SLIA is governed by the SLIA Council, a group of 20 members,[2] elected from among the SLIA membership, the majority of whom are chartered architects.
The SLIA is a member organisation, with 1655 members.[3] Chartered Members are entitled to call themselves chartered architects and to append the post-nominals AIA after their name.
SLIA Headquarters
The SLIA's headquarters is located at 120/7, Vidya Mawatha, Colombo 07.[1] The building is open to the public, and includes a library, architectural bookshop, exhibition galleries and lecture theater.
Sri Lanka Institute of Architects is the only local institute for Practicing Architects in Sri Lanka.
SLA Awards
Sri Lankan Architecture Awards are Sri Lankan awards for Architecture established by the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects in 1956. SLA Awards aims to recognize and reward built architectural works that address the needs and aspirations of excellence in Sri Lankan Design.
The SLIA has been conducting the Awards Cycle for more than 25 years.[4]
