Sri Selva Vinayagar Temple (ஸ்ரீ செல்வ விநாயகர் ஆலயம்) is a Hindu temple and a registered charity located in Ilford, in the London Borough of Redbridge.[1] This temple is mainly dedicated to Ganesha and was founded by Selvarajah Sellathurai.[2] He wanted to make sure that a Hindu temple was located in the borough he resided in, so that he and the thousands of Shaivism devotees living in the region would be able to go to temple close to home. [1] The temple also aims to promote the planning of educational and cultural events at the temple and in the surrounding area.[3]
The temple contains several examples of Dravidian architecture. The main shrine is dedicated to Hindu deity Ganesha, but there are also several shrines dedicated to other Hindu deities, included Murugan, Bhairava, Saraswathi, Hanuman, Lakshmi, Nataraja, Venkateswara, and Shani.[4] Upstairs, the temple has a large hall that is used for religious functions, weddings, and other events.[5]
In June 2021, the temple underwent through a major renovation to meet the developing needs of the community.[1]
Annually, a chariot festival (also known as தேர்) is normally held every summer. The festival involves devotees pulling the chariot carrying the deities through the streets. For example, one chariot festival that was held in 2023 was on Sunday 6 August.[6]
The temple has produced reports on its financial information going back to 2018.[7][8][9][10][11]
Temple services[edit]
The temple offers several service pujas, including Archana, Abishegam, Uppayam, Prasaadam, Annathanam, and many more priests services outside.[1]
Archana[edit]

Abishegam/Uppayam[edit]
Ritualistic holy bathing of the deities with sacred substances such as milk, yoghurt, honey, and so on. Abishegams for a single deity or a group of deities can be scheduled in advance with the temple office. There are several Abishegams available at the temple, including the following:[6]
1. Abishagem in conjunction with Homam
2. Shangu Abishagem (108).
On request, the temple can provide the goods required for abishagams and homams. Devotees are also welcome to provide a list of things for abishagams and homams. For the list, it is advised to contact the temple office.[6]
Prasaadam/Annathanam[edit]
The temple can allocate between 50 and 100 devotees during annathanam. Please call the Temple Office to confirm a time and date for booking an annathanam or special prasadhams for your pujas for any deity.[6]
In addition, there are many services available in the temple that could be done upon request.[6]
