Srikant Chellappa is an Indian-American director, producer, actor and screenwriter[1] based in St. Louis, Missouri. His film credits include the action-comedy Bad Grandmas (2017),[2] the horror film Ghost Image (2007),[3] and the documentary Running Against Dick (2004).[4] Reviews of his work have appeared in the Los Angeles Times[5] and Film Journal International.[6]
Biography[edit]
Chellappa was born and raised in New Delhi, India.[7] At 22, he relocated to the United States to attend graduate school in Memphis, Tennessee. He currently lives, works, and writes in St. Louis, Missouri.
Film career[edit]
In 2003, Chellappa wrote and directed his first short film, The Players, an allegory about geopolitical tensions between the United States, China, Israel, and the Middle East.[8] His next project was Running Against Dick (2004),[9] a feature-length documentary about a long shot third-party candidate seeking to unseat incumbent politician Dick Gephardt. After producing the fantasy-thriller Apocalypse and the Beauty Queen (2005),[10] Chellappa wrote and produced Ghost Image,[11] a horror-thriller about a video editor who can communicate with her deceased boyfriend through her computer. Chellappa then produced and appeared alongside Kevin Sorbo in Fatal Call (2012),[12] a thriller about a small town man who finds himself accused of murder.[13]
The writer-director's most recent film, Bad Grandmas,[14] was released in 2017. It follows a group of four grandmothers who accidentally kill a con men, and stars Pam Grier and the late Florence Henderson, appearing in her last onscreen role. The film received coverage in The Huffington Post,[15] The Hollywood Reporter,[16] and Entertainment Weekly.[17]
