Ssue
SSUE, born Serwah Susan Amoakohene, is obviously one of the most gifted Ghanaian musical revelations of 2018. She is inspired by the joy of creation and sings with real feeling and a wonderful touch. Born to Ghanaian parents in the United States, she moved to Ghana when she was four. She later went back and obtained a degree in Marketing and Finance from the University of Maryland.
SSUE worked at various jobs but could not get music out of her system and eventually settled fulltime for it after considerable deliberation. “I have always known music to be my prime passion but I wanted to fully convince myself that I was ready to devote the required attention to it,” SSUE says.
SSUE'S A Lovely, dedicated and focused Artist, a talented young modern African songwriter composer with a lot to share and say through her music and lyrics for her generation and kindred souls alike. With her warm personality and trendy words relating with ease her life's experiences as she lives it. She's growing into a beautiful role model to watch out for!!
SSUE performs her own songs which she infuses the percussive African rhythm with the raunchy RnB, Soul to sultry Nu Soul-Jazz which she powers with the ease of a strong voice. To create what is now known as Afro pop. An African phenomenon gone global rather than a western variant going global
She has performed at an Afro-Jazz concert headlined by Okyerema Asante and pianist, Benito Gonzales, at the African Regent Hotel in Accra and had a feel of the international scene when she sang in Paris and Cannes, both in France.
She has successfully done collaborations with impressive acts like Pat Thomas, Teddy Osei of Osibisa, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Immanuel Emmanuel, Dela Botri, Ben Brako, Paul Bilson and Steve Bedi. SSUE was part of the line up at the Stanbic jazz 2019 that included Salif Kieta, Bona, UB 40 and Richard Bona. Her associations with Teddy Osei, of OSIBISA fame, and Hugh Masekela, African jazz legend, have had a strong influence on her and not forgetting that of Bibie Brew the Ghanaian French icon, her voice coach and mentor. SSUE represented Ghana at the Felabration 2019 where she performed with award winning Femi Anikulapo Kuti in Lagos Nigeria and prior to that the city of Durban, South Africa had a taste of her music which was described as unifying. SSUE has shared the stage with veteran highlife musician Kojo Antwi and Grammy award-winning roots reggae musical band—Steel Pulse in March of 2020. She has participated in a series of virtual concerts with other international artists across the globe to create awareness to curb the spread of the Corona virus
SSUE is confident of the future and is glad to be gradually getting the attention she knows she deserves. She has, indeed, arrived for the long haul.
