St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Waterloo, Ontario[1] is part of the Serbian Orthodox Eparchy of Canada under the jurisdiction of Bishop Mitrofan (Kodić) of Canada. Located at 665 King Street North in Waterloo, it is the second of three Serbian churches built in Waterloo, Kitchener, Guelph, and Cambridge areas[2].
After the successful planting of the church of the Holy Trinity in Kitchener in 1986, the Church-School Congregation and Parish of St. George the Great Martyr succeeded in erecting a new church in Waterloo in 1987. Metropolitan Irinej Kovačević officiated at the consecration. Not long after, a Church Banquet Hall was added..[3]Soon, the Church School Congregation established the "St. John of Damascus" Church Choir and "Gavrilo Princip" folklore group. The Circle of Serbian Sisters was named after "Pokrov Presvete Bogorotice" (Intercession of the Theotokos). After 1993 the Waterloo parish and Kitchener's Holy Trinity parish got together to form the School of Serbian Language.[3]
At the time the parish priest was Srđan Kosanovich.[4]
On 22 June 2015 His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia visited Serbian Orthodox Church School Congregation in Waterloo[5]
