Stacy Widelitz (born 1956) is a composer,[1][2][3][4][5] musician,[6] and photographer known for scoring film features and made-for-television movies.[7][8][9]

Biography[edit]

Widelitz was born in Plainview, New York. He graduated from Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School in 1973[10] and attended Manhattanville College.[11]

Music[edit]

As a teenager, Widelitz played clubs on Long Island as a member of Local 802 of the American Federation of Musicians.[12] At age 24, he co-wrote the musical theme for The Richard Simmons Show with Wendy Fraser. He moved to Los Angeles and continued to write music for film features, television movies,[13][14] and title credits, most notably Dirty Dancing (1987),[15][16] Road House (1989), and 500 Days of Summer (2009).[17][18][19][20] He co-wrote "She's Like the Wind" with Patrick Swayze for the Dirty Dancing soundtrack;[21][22][23] the song climbed to #3 on Billboard's Top 40.[24][25]

He received an Emmy nomination for ABC's World of Discovery, two BMI Awards, four Gold ADDYs, and the Best Music Award for One Last Dance (2003)[26] at the Nashville Film Festival.[27]

Personal[edit]

Widelitz is currently the board president of Nashville Opera Guild,[32] a board member of the Nashville Composers Association,[33] past board president of the Nashville Film Festival, past board president of ALIAS Chamber Ensemble, past president of Leadership Music, and former Commissioner in the City of Oak Hill.[34] He lives in Nashville.[35][36]
