Academics

The LSTD Program is a five year doctoral program. Candidates must complete 135 course units, and complete a thesis project. Additionally, candidates must complete a minor degree (20 credits) in a subject area other than education, or a masters degree. See complete requirements here: Degree Requirements | Stanford Graduate School of Education.

Candidates are required to maintain a 3.0 grade point average, and are encouraged to take most classes for a letter grade, though this is not strictly required.

Each candidate is matched with a primary advisor, and a secondary advisor, both of which are responsible for the candidate’s progress, answering questions, guiding them in their research focus, and advising on introductions and collaborations with other academics and faculty.
