Starbucks
Starbucks Corporation, founded in 1971 by Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl, and Gordon Bowker, is an American multinational chain of coffeehouses and roastery reserves headquartered in Seattle, Washington. Howard Schultz, who joined the company in 1982, transformed Starbucks into a global leader among coffeehouses, driving its growth and branding as the world’s largest coffeehouse chain. As of 2024, Starbucks operates over 36,000 locations in more than 80 countries, continuing to be the dominant force in the global coffee market and a central representation of the United States' second wave of coffee culture.
Starbucks locations offer a wide range of products, including hot and cold beverages, whole-bean coffee, the VIA microground instant coffee, espresso, caffe latte, full- and loose-leaf teas (including Teavana products), Evolution Fresh juices, Frappuccino beverages, La Boulange pastries, and various snacks such as chips and crackers. Some menu items, like the famous Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL), are seasonal or exclusive to certain localities, contributing to the brand's appeal and sense of excitement. “Our mission is to inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup, and one neighborhood at a time,” says Schultz, reflecting the company’s commitment to community and quality.
Today, Starbucks stands not only as a coffee brand but also as a cultural icon. It has evolved into more than just a coffee retailer, creating a "third place" – a comfortable space between home and work where people gather, enjoy their favorite beverages, and connect with others.
