The state anthem of the Luhansk People's Republic is the official anthem of the Luhansk People's Republic, a breakaway state located in Luhansk Oblast of Ukraine. The music was composed by Georgy Galin and the lyrics written by the poet Vladimir Mikhailov. The anthem was approved on 29 April 2016 by Head Igor Plotnitsky.[1][2]
History[edit]
At the inauguration ceremony of Igor Plotnitsky as Head of the LPR on 4 November 2014, a draft of the republic's national anthem was played.[3] The draft was composed by Russian singer Angelika Yutt,[4] and the lyrics written by the poet Luhansk Alexei Reznikov.[5]
The process of selecting an official anthem began in July 2015, when the Ministry of Culture and People's Council held a competition. Entrants were required to submit complete works with lyrics and melody, as well as individual components. The submissions went through three stages and were evaluated by a jury consisting of prominent cultural figures and People's Council deputies Denis Miroshnichenko, Dmitry Sidorov and Maxim Dersky. 64 works were submitted for consideration by the jury and three made it to the final stage, with two eventually becoming the main contenders. The winners were Vladimir Mikhailov, who authored the lyrics and Georgy Galin, the composer.[2]
A special bill to formalise the anthem was submitted and Head Igor Plotnitsky approved the anthem at a plenary session of the People's Council on 29 April 2016.[2]
