StayWell Suites Charity[1] (‘StayWell’) is an independent Canadian charitable organization that provides accommodations to patients, caregivers and their families who require relocation for medical treatment.[2][3]

Mission/Vision Statement[edit]

Mission Statement[edit]

To provide access to accommodations for all Canadians, their caregivers and there families who require relocation for medical treatment.[4]

Vision Statement[edit]

To ensure all Canadians have equal opportunity access to healthcare, regardless of where they live.[1]

Eligibility[edit]

There are no strict eligibility requirements. All patients requiring relocation for medical treatment, their caregivers and families are eligible to access the service, irrespective of financial need.[1]

Accommodations[edit]

StayWell offers both short stay (less than 28 days) and long stay (greater than or equal to 28 days) accommodations via its network hotel and furnished apartment partners.

Furnished Apartments[edit]

Apartments are modern and fully furnished, and features and amenities include:

  • Suite sizes that range from 1 to 3 bedrooms - 500 to 1,000 sq
  • Close to hospitals in urban centers
  • Professionally managed
  • Private and COVID friendly - Separate private residence, no shared bathrooms/kitchens
  • Fully equipped kitchen with housewares
  • Ensuite laundry facilities
  • 24 hour security
  • Unlimited WIFI[5]

In 2018, StayWell formed a strategic partnership with Sky View Suites[6] to streamline policies around access, pricing and notice to vacate, specifically geared to patients booking long stay accommodations (28+ days).

Hotels[edit]

Hotel accommodations are close to hospitals in urban centers and offer access to all hotel amenities such as concierge services and common hotel facilities/services.

Impact[edit]

Since 2017, StayWell has connected thousands of patients, caregivers and families with affordable accommodations.

COVID19 Healthcare Worker Support[edit]

At the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020, medical lodging facilities that worked with hospital programs were required to limit capacity or close altogether. During this time, StayWell continued to operate serving patients, and pivoted part of its operations to support healthcare workers required to isolate away from their families or to relocate for their work.[8] [9]

Hospital Network[edit]

StayWell has worked with patients seeking care from across Canada. StayWell is currently operating primarily in Toronto but continues to expand its hospital network across Canada. As of July 2022, 90% of its patients needing accommodations were seeking care from the below hospitals:

StayWell Medical Funding Guide[edit]

The StayWell Medical Funding Guide aims to assist healthcare support teams with finding and accessing patient fun ding opportunities in Canada. The guide is reviewed and updated annually and provides a list of government and private funding sources.
