Stefan Arvidsson

Stefan Arvidsson (born 1968) is a Swedish professor in the historian of religions at Linnæus University. Arvidsson was educated at Lund University. His dissertation Aryan Idols. Indo-European Mythology as Science and Ideology (2006, Swedish 2000) analysed the research and general discourse on Aryan/Indo-European race, culture, mythology and religion. In 2012, Arvidsson was appointed professor at Linnæeus university and professor at Stockholm University.

Arvidsson has predominantly been working with the emergent field of the study of modern mythology. His research has dealt with art and modern mythology and with politics and mythology. Particularly the style and mythic politics of generic socialism has been in focus for several articles, as well as for a monograph. Arvidsson has contributed to the exploration of largely neglected topics such as socialist heraldry, socialist phaleristics, communist symbolism and anarchist symbolism.
