In early 2023, a fast-paced, high-pitched version of "Step On Me" circulated widely on TikTok, soundtracking clips ranging from retro video game edits to animated cartoons.[3] Capitalizing on this viral moment, the Cardigans released an official "Sped Up Version" of the track to streaming platforms on 30 March 2023—exactly 27 years after the original album release in partnership with Speed Radio and Kuya Magik.[3][6] The new version, which runs for 3 minutes and 26 seconds, was remixed by Kuya Magik and credited to "The Cardigans, Speed Radio & Kuya Magik".[6]
The sped-up version has been streamed millions of times, introducing "Step On Me" to a new audience and prompting a wider reappraisal of the band's early catalogue.[3]
