Stepdude is an upcoming American comedy film directed by Eric Appel and written by Scot Armstrong, Tracy Oliver, Jessica Gao, Rodney Rothman and Appel. Jack Black serves as a producer.

The film is scheduled to be released by Sony Pictures Releasing under its Columbia Pictures label.

Premise[edit]

Sherman has fallen in love with Will's mother, and the film follows the ensuing relationship changes between the two of them.

Production[edit]

In June 2021, Kitao Sakurai was attached to direct Oh Hell No from a script written by Scot Armstrong, Tracy Oliver, Jessica Gao, and Rodney Rothman. Ice Cube was originally set to star with Jack Black, who also produced, potentially joining him.[3] The week before production was going to begin in Hawaii in October 2021, Cube left the project after declining a request from producers to get vaccinated, for which he would have received $9 million. As a result, the project was delayed indefinitely.[4] In November 2022, the film's title was changed to Stepdude, and Eric Appel was hired to provide re-writes and direct. There have been no updates on the project since.[5]

Release[edit]

In June 2021, the film was given a release date of July 1, 2022.[2] This was later moved up to June 17, 2022.[6] In February 2022, the film was removed from Sony's release schedule.[7]
