Stephen McDowell is a New Zealand entrepreneur and reality television participant.[1][2] McDowell was the runner-up contestant on the reality show The Apprentice Aotearoa.[3][4]
Early life
McDowell was raised in Invercargill where he attended secondary school at Verdon College.[5] McDowell then studied physical education at the University of Otago.
Career
McDowell started his own personal training business, but due to complications with hip surgeries, he was forced to discontinue.[6][7][8]
McDowell then changed careers and became involved in social media content creation under the name ‘The Buzzy Kiwi’ and travelled to a number of countries around the world.[9][10][11][12][13] He started directing and producing video and photographic content for different companies.[14][15]
In 2020, McDowell created a documentary titled Grass Roots - The Reality of Legalisation about cannabis law reform.[16] The documentary was created as a case study in view of the vote on legislation of cannabis in New Zealand.[17] Following the release of his documentary, McDowell interviewed former New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark and other politicians regarding cannabis reform in New Zealand.[18][19]
In 2021, McDowell appeared in the reality TV series The Apprentice Aotearoa as a contestant among 14 others and was runner up, after the judges chose Vanessa Goodson as the winner in the show's season finale.[20][21][22][23]
