Stephen Vaglica is an American and Italian concert pianist and classical recording artist. He performs in solo recitals and with major orchestras such as the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana for international audiences.[1] He has performed and recorded a repertoire of music including pieces by Chopin, Beethoven, and Gershwin.[2]

Background and Career[edit]

Vaglica was born in New York City. At the age of 8 he and his family moved to Italy where he graduated from the Conservatory of Music with the distinction of Summa cum Laude. In Venice, he continued his studies under pianist Vincenzo Pertile a student of pianist Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli. After his formative studies he returned to the USA and began his career as an international soloist.[3][4]

Some notable performances have been at the Selinunte Archaeological Park with the OSN Etna Philarmonica conducted by Vincenzo Di Mauro,[5] at the Monreale Cathedral with pianist Silvia Vaglica,[6][7][8] and in the Piazza Ruggero Settimo in Palermo with the Sicilian Symphony Orchestra conducted by Evgeny Bushkov.[9] Vaglica received 'Best Classical Recording' from The Detroit Music Awards in 2015.[10] He also received an award from the town of Mascalucia, Sicily for his promotion of the Mascalucian orchestra and other talent on an international scale. The award was presented by then mayor of Masalucia, Fabio Cantarella.[11]
