Stereotypes of Canadians
This article contains a list of miscellaneous information. (May 2019) |
Stereotypes of Canadians are found in several cultures. Although many of these stereotypes are exaggerated, some have some truth to them.[1]
Stereotypes
Politeness
Many Canadians are viewed as overly polite,[2] saying "eh"[3] and "sorry"[4] a lot.
Hockey
Hockey is very popular in Canada, with some Canadians even assumed to be hockey fans.[5]
Winter
Winters in Canada are notoriously cold,[6] although a common misconception is that it is cold all year round.[1]
Food
Maple syrup[7], back bacon, beer[8], and poutine[9] are stereotypical Canadian foods. Tim Hortons is stereotypical in Canada, although it is not completely dominant.[10]
Taxes
Some people think that Canadian taxing is similar to France or Germany. In reality, it is slightly below the US.[5]
Drugs
Cannabis in Canada is legal. Some have even created weed edibles there.[11]
