From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Steve Covino (born August 9, 1976) previously known as "El Covino" on the NY radio scene, is an American Television/Radio Talk Show Host/Disc Jockey heard daily on Sirius XM Satellite Radio and hosting weeknights on ESPN's Now or Never[1][2]

Professional career[edit]

Steve Covino started his career in broadcasting as the producer and co-host of Solid State on 92.3 K-ROCK WXRK in NYC (Later called Altered State with DJ Liquid Todd on 103.5 WKTU The Beat of NY). Covino later co-hosted K-ROCK's Hard On with Crazy Cabbie and earned a weekend slot at K-ROCK. Covino left K-ROCK in 2004 when offered a full-time position for Maxim Radio on Sirius XM Satellite radio [2]. The opportunity came as Covino had already shown his value as the original nighttime host of SiriusXMs Octane (Pure Hard Rock) two years before the talk show debuted.[3]. Since 2004, he is best known as a host of one of the fastest-growing talk shows on SiriusXM: The Covino and Rich Show on Faction Talk 103.[1]

In addition to a talk show, Steve Covino expanded his brand by delivering sports from a lifestyle/fan perspective and launched a pre-show titled Bleacher Report Radio w/ C&R bringing the very popular website to life with experts from www.BleacherReport.com on Sirius XM Sports Zone 92.[4][5]

The success of his radio talk show opened doors into other entertainment avenues and Steve Covino debuted his first television show on Sports New York (SNY) on Sept. 30, 2013[6]. SNY focused on all things NY Sports and more from a fan/pop culture perspective. Covino and Rich offer viewers and sports fans an entertaining, lighthearted show that will incorporate pop culture, social media and viewer participation—focusing less on stats and X's and O's.[7]

In 2018, Steve Covino got hired part-time to host ESPN Radio which led them back to television to host a daily nighttime talk show. On January 28, 2019 Now or Never debuted weeknights on ESPN2.[6][8]

Personal life[edit]

Steve and his now ex-wife Layla Kayleigh had a daughter, Melody Rain Covino on November 2, 2009.[9] They celebrated their daughter's christening in Union, New Jersey, hometown of Steve Covino.[10] On October 9, 2011, Kayleigh and Covino married in Las Vegas, Nevada where Melody served as their flower girl.[11] After 10 years together, 5 of marriage, Covino and Kayleigh divorced in April 2018. (Public Record).

In June 2019, media personality Jeff Lewis accused Steve Covino and his co-host Rich Davis of reporting Lewis to SiriusXM HR as a result of comments he made about the duo on his talk show Jeff Lewis Live.[12]

Radio[edit]

Covino got his start in radio at Montclair State University's 90.3 WMSC and since then has lent his voice to various stations/channels such as: 92.3 K-ROCK NY, SiriusXM's Maxim Radio, ESPN Radio[13], Bleacher Report Radio[14] and SiriusXM rock/talk channels. Steve Covino's talk career was born in 2004 when he signed a contract for The Covino & Rich Show launching on a now-scrapped Maxim Radio where they then bounced around channels and timeslots until finally transitioning to mornings Faction Talk 103.[15] The Covino and Rich show is best known as a men's lifestyle show which had frequent celebrity guests. In the 2020/2021 season, Covino interviewed Hollywood stars including: Chrissy Metz[16], Jason Biggs[17] and Jessica Alba. Many of the show's highlights and celebrity interviews can be viewed on the show's social media pages and SiriusXM On Demand.

In addition to his successful talk radio career, Steve Covino simultaneously voiced SiriusXM's rock channels and transitioned from long-time position on Octane 37 (Pure Hard Rock of Today) to Turbo 41 (Hard Rock of the Late 90s/00s) starting Aug 17, 2017.[18]

Over the years Steve Covino has also appeared as a guest on a handful of popular radio shows like What a Joke with Tom Papa and Fortune Feimster[19] and The Jason Ellis Show.

Television and Hosting[edit]

Steve Covino previously made appearances on Style Network's Empire Girls along-side now ex-wife Layla Kayleigh.[20]

In Sept. 2013, SportsNet New York brought on Covino and Rich to host their own live daily talk television show Covino and Rich.[6][8][7]

Steve Covino has appeared as a guest host on ESPN shows such as First Take and the Will Cain Show.[21]

On January 28, 2019, Steve Covino and co-host Rich Davis announced the start of ESPN TV show Now or Never airing on ESPN2 Monday-Friday at 11PST.[22] [23] Now or Never focused on the pop-culture side of sports and showcased interviews with sports personalities including: David Beckham[24], Marc Cuban [25] and Mike Tyson[26]. In 2021, Now or Never was not renewed for its third season during the highly publicized ESPN budget cuts in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.[27]

In late 2019, Steve Covino made a guest appearance as a radio host on History Channel's Battle of the 80's Supercars with David Hasselhoff. He also has been featured multiple times on LatiNation.[28][29]

Covino worked with Anheuser-Busch throughout the years, hosting many of their promotional events: Band of Buds[30], Budlight Hotel and various Super Bowl Parties.

Podcasting[edit]

In 2021, Steve Covino and his co-host Rich Davis chose to not renew their SiriusXM contract for radio talk show The Covino and Rich Show[31] which had just completed it's 16th year on Satellite Radio. The Covino and Rich Show continued seamlessly onto the Patreon platform where their show now lives mornings M-Th. The subscription-based podcast offers two options: audio stream only or a "Behind the Velvet Rope" option where subscribers can watch a live video stream and access bonus content.[32]. In addition to his Patreon show, Steve Covino is featured on a free "Best of the Week" podcast releasing every weekend on Apple Podcasts.
