Steven Nye (born 1999) is an American director and cinematographer.[1] He is best known for directing the feature-length documentary Losing Grip (Documentary), following 2020 U.S. Olympic Gymnast Shane Wiskus.[2]

Early life and education

Nye was born in Minneapolis, MN and started gymnastics lessons at the age of 2. In 2015, he started filming teammate Shane Wiskus in the gym for social media.[3] Nye took a gap year after graduating high school from The Blake School (Minneapolis) and continued to follow Wiskus as he trained at The University of Minnesota.[4][5] Nye went on to study at University of Tampa, graduating in 2022 with a BFA in Film and Media Arts.[6] Nye received the D.A. Pennebaker Award for Excellence in Documentary Filmmaking from the University.[7]
