Stickmen Media
Stickmen Media is a video game development company based in Christchurch New Zealand. It was established in 2012 by Brooklyn Waters and Margaret Pickering. Stickmen Media published the mobile game "Zombeeze" and the PC VR game "Zombeeze VR".[1].
The company and its founders are well known in New Zealand[2], not only for providing services to New Zealand businesses but also for the release of several games as Stickmen Studios and more recently the release of Zombeeze for Android and IOS and Zombeeze VR. Stickmen Media became one of the first tenants in Christchurch's prestigious Epic Innovation Centre[3], a centre built to house the best of Christchurch's innovation companies after the 2011 earthquakes.
Having developed a Virtual Reality game Stickmen Media began looking for other uses for virtual reality and implemented a virtual reality wheelchair trainer in conjunction with Callaghan Innovation and the Burwood Academy for Independent Living (BAIL)[4].
In November 2015 Stickmen Media created a subsidiary company "MTech Games" to commercialise the virtual reality wheelchair trainer. Callaghan Innovation and Stickmen Media ceded their intellectual property to MTech Games[5]. MTech applied to become members of the Lightning Lab accelerator[6]. MTech was accepted and continued to use Stickmen Media as its production arm. Today MTech is a successful company in its own right with collaborations in New Zealand and the US and its parent company "Stickmen Media" continues in the refinement and improvements to the virtual reality wheelchair trainer[7]
Stickmen Media has become a significant contributor to the VR and AR in New Zealand, movements having no fewer than 13 mentions in the NZVRARA first report on the NZ AR and VR community in New Zealand.[8]
Also in 2015 Stickmen Media were finalists in the Champion Canterbury awards[9] and the New Zealand Innovation Awards[10].
Most recently Stickmen Media has begun the development of a new game called "After the Light", a zombie survival horror shooter. The company hopes to release this game on Steam in October 2018. It will be released as both VR and non-VR versions. Stickmen Media are registered PlayStation developers so they are looking to also release the game on PlayStation and PlayStation VR.
