Stop Zionist Hate (abbreviated SZH; sometimes also stylized as StopZionistHate) is an American nonprofit advocacy group. It was established in late 2023 by Abdullah Hassan[1] after the outbreak of the Gaza war.[2] As a counter to pro-Israel watchdog efforts, it focuses on monitoring issues such as Islamophobia, Zionism,[3] and complicity in abuses against Palestinians.[4][5] SZH is a pro-Palestinian digital initiative that was established partly in response to organizations such as Canary Mission and StopAntisemitism.[4][6]
Activities
According to Influence Watch, SZH describes itself as non-partisan and non-governmental. Its legal structure and personnel have not been publicly disclosed.[7]
Stop Zionist Hate runs a website that catalogs anti-Palestinian incidents, monitors supporters of Islamophobia,[8] and hosts a "Lobby Tracker" that lists members of the United States Congress.[5] SZH has an X account that seeks to "ensure that the American public is aware of the threat posed by Zionist extremism".[4][9] The account's following grew rapidly after its launch, with six-figure follower counts by mid-2024. The social media campaign grew extensively from late 2023 to 2024, resulting in broader notice online and in media coverage.[7]
In December 2023, Stop Zionist Hate announced "Raven Mission" as an affiliate project. The project documents Zionist-related or Islamophobic activities and support for atrocities against Palestinians.[4][10] In addition, SZH voices opposition against complicit support for the Gaza genocide.[11] SZH also runs Track AIPAC.[12]
The campaign’s website has a “Report an Incident” feature where the public can report anti-Palestinian or related incidents. On social media, it frequently highlights alleged examples of anti-Palestinian bias in workplaces, universities, and public discourse.[7]
Reception
Stop Zionist has been positively received by various pro-Palestinian activists and organizations, including Tech for Palestine and others.[13] In December 2023, the Iranian state broadcaster Press TV devoted an episode of Palestine: Declassified to discussing the newly launched project.[8]
However, in 2024, the pro-Israel watchdog Canary Mission published a dossier criticizing Stop Zionist Hate.[14] The Jewish News Syndicate also published a similar report.[15] InfluenceWatch has described SZH as "an online group dedicated to criticizing opponents of Palestine".[7] SZH has also been criticized by the Anti-Defamation League.[16]
