Strandberg Guitars, stylised as .strandberg* Guitars, is a Swedish manufacturer of headless electric guitars and basses located in Uppsala, Sweden[1]. Their instruments are recognized for their ergonomic characteristics.

History[edit]

Ola Strandberg founded .strandberg* Guitars in 2007[1]. Originally intending to only produce a single guitar for himself, Strandberg began developing the "Ergonomic Guitar System" (EGS), which consisted of modules designed to retrofit an existing guitar in order to make it more ergonomic. Features included lightweight string locks to replace tuners on the headstock of the instrument, a headless tremolo bridge system (similar to a Floyd Rose), and a torzal twisted replacement neck, which would later become known as the patented EndurNeck™.[2][3]

In 2009, the first prototype EGS guitar was built and was mentioned on online guitar forums.[1] Early adoptors of .strandberg* Guitars include Chris Letchford of Scale the Summit[4][3], Tosin Abasi of Animals As Leaders[5][3], and Misha Mansoor of Periphery.[6][3]

In January 2016, Ed Yoon became the Chief Operating Officer of .strandberg* Guitars after first meeting Ola Strandberg at the 2013 NAMM Show.[2]

In September 2021, .strandberg* Guitars released the Boden NX line of guitars.[7][8][9][10]

Artists[edit]

Sarah Longfield has been a long time endorser of .strandberg* Guitars. Her signature Boden Metal Sarah Longfield Edition guitar was released in 2019.[11][12] Per Nilsson of Scar Symmetry and Meshuggah released his signature Singularity model in 2016, with a newer version being released in 2021.[13][1][14] In 2017, signature models for guitarists Plini and Alex Machacek were launched.[1][14] Paul Masvidal of Cynic released his signature Masvidalien model based on the .strandberg* Varberg design in 2015, as well as a model based on the Boden design in 2016. His signature Masvidalien Cosmo model was then launched in 2017.[15]

Other notable players include Yvette Young[16], David Maxim Micic[17], Guthrie Govan[18], and Allan Holdsworth[3].
