A strategic force, rocket force, strategic rocket force, or strategic missile force, is a military branch of a nation's armed forces that uses missile weapons (especially strategic missiles)[citation needed] as its primary means of attack and deterrence. Historically, the world's first strategic force was the Soviet Strategic Rocket Forces, officially established on 17 December 1959, as an independent military service[1][not in citation given]. As of 2023, there are 4 strategic forces of different nations established as independent services of militaries, namely PLARF (China), RVSN (Russia), KPASF (North Korea), and RSSMF (Saudi Arabia).[citation needed] In addition, some countries also have strategic forces that are a part of other military services (such as the Twentieth Air Force of USAF[2]) or strategic command that is directly under the administration of armed forces (such as the Strategic Forces Command of Indian Armed Forces).[citation needed]
