Stumble Guys is a mobile and desktop battle royale game developed by Finnish mobile game studio Kitka Games and owned by the American game publisher Scopely. The game involves up to 32 players who compete against each other in a series of randomly selected mini-games, such as obstacle courses or soccer.[2][3][4] Players are eliminated as the rounds progress until the last remaining player is crowned the winner. The game draws inspiration from the popular desktop game Fall Guys by Epic Games, and Stumble Guys is said to be a mobile alternative to Fall Guys following the Epic Games v. Apple lawsuit and Epic Games’s removal of its mobile apps.[5][6][7]

The game was released by Kitka Games in September 24, 2020 for Android and February 16, 2021 for iOS devices,[8][9] and on October 7th, 2021, it was released on Steam.[1] In 2022, the game was acquired by Scopely.[10][11][12] Olli Lahtinen, CEO of Kitka Games said it a statement, “We are thrilled that so many players have embraced the fun of ‘Stumble Guys,’ building highly engaged communities that connect with the game around the world […] Scopely immediately stood apart as the right home for our beloved experience as we believe they will provide the infrastructure and creativity to help realize the full potential of the game, continuing to deepen and grow the community for years to come.”[12]

The game was a major success, being downloaded 225 million times as of September 2022 and acquiring $40 million in revenue.[13] It currently has 30 million daily players.[11][14][15][16]

Gameplay[edit]

Up to 32 players compete together to be the first to complete an obstacle course, race, or mini-game. The first 16 players to qualify move on to the second round, and the first 8 players to qualify move on to the third round. The winner of the third round receives a crown.[2][14][9][17]

Players can purchase skins and emotes using the in-game currencies Gems and Tokens.[18][7]

History[edit]

After initial release in August 2020, the game was played by a relatively steady numbers of players for about a year, when in 2021 it suddenly received widespread fame due to its simple, clear objectives, fast gameplay, and similarity to Fall Guys.[8][12][13] Despite some criticism that the game was a clone of Fall Guys, the game caught on quickly in the extremely competitive mobile-game market. This was due in large part to Kitka Games turning to social media influencers to promote their product.[8][13]

Stumble Guys reached its peak popularity at around 2022, with around 20 million daily players, acquiring Kitka Games $40 million in revenue. On December 14, 2022, Stumble Guys announced its partnership with Hot Wheels and their launch of a new Hot Wheels map. A few days later, the game hosted an event called "Stumble Prix," a tournament attended by various YouTube and Twitch streamers.[19]

At around the same time, the American video game publisher Scopely acquired the game for an undisclosed amount of money.[5][11] Scopely immediately began pushing major changes in how the game was presented online, such as creating a website, accounts on social sites, YouTube ads as well as a YouTube channel; which has since garnered over one million subscribers.[20]

Since being acquired, the game has partnered with five different companies (Hot Wheels, NFL, FIFA, Rabbids, and Nerf[21]) to make limited edition maps, skins, and items, further expanding their reach and popularity.[22][23][24][25]

On July 11, 2023, Stumble Guys has been announced that the game is going to be released on Xbox Series and Xbox One as a timed exclusive and people can pre-register on the official website to be notified.
